FLAGS OF FREEDOM OVERVIEW

The Flags of Freedom Trilogy tells the 2,500-Year Epic Adventure Story of “How America Became America,” as narrated by the many flags that played key roles in helping to Create, Win, Defend, and Keep American Democracy and Freedom alive and well over two and one-half centuries! The Flags of Freedom trilogy offers young readers of any age, a totally unique journey through our nation’s story that’s narrated by each of the over 100 Flags that were each eyewitnesses to America’s history in the making! In addition to hearing each flag’s description of the people, places, and events that they witnessed, you’ll also learn the facts about each of those flags, whether Flags of Freedom or Flags of Tyranny, and how they were designed and used to fulfill their intended purposes.

Over the series’ three volumes, you’ll learn all about the flags of many Civilizations, People, Kings & Queens, and Nations, that helped lead America to Freedom, Liberty, and Independence in the 18th century. Then you’ll learn how we succeeded despite our experiment with Democracy almost failing during the Civil War, and instead, how we survived and rapidly grew in population, territory, and capability to become an Industrial powerhouse during the latter half of the 19th century. The trilogy finally ends with America as the world’s most important and powerful nation, and as a global force for good as we became the world’s preeminent Superpower in the 20th and 21st centuries.

The 3-Volumes of America’s National Story:

Volume One, “Flags of Freedom – The Quest for Freedom,” the first volume in the series, begins with the flags of the Thinkers in ancient Athens & Rome, circa 507 B.C., where Democracy and the Republic respectively, were first born, tried, and failed. Those same ideas and ideals, however, would some two millennia later be resurrected to greatly influence a group of 18th century thinkers and philosophers who would improve upon them, and use them to model new, revolutionary, and never before imagined ideas about citizen self-governance and representative self-government. America’s Founding story continues with the flags of the Discoverers, Explorers, Colonizers, Revolutionaries, Lawmakers, and Founding Fathers, who, after winning a war for Freedom and Independence against the greatest military power in the world, Great Britain, created America’s world-shaking founding documents: The Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. The Founding story comes to an end at the close of the 18th century, in 1795, with two new states added to the original thirteen states, and two new stars added to our national flag and symbol, the Stars and Stripes.

Volume Two, “Flags of Freedom – The Rise, Fall & Rebirth of Freedom,” opens at the turn of the 19th century with the War of 1812, and with our nation expanding Westward, adding many new states and stars to our flag in the process. Those new stars witnessed a small agricultural country rapidly grow in territory and population with the Louisiana Purchase, until mid-century, when this growth was interrupted as our nation tore itself apart in a battle between two flags and two beliefs to settle the issue of slavery during the Civil War. A Union once more, our national banner, now referred to as “Old Glory,” witnessed our nation’s rebirth and its transition from a mostly agrarian society to a rapidly expanding industrial powerhouse. This second chapter in our national story ends with America demonstrating our growing military power during the Spanish-America War in 1898, and taking its place among nations by earning the respect of the world.

Volume Three, “Flags of Freedom – The Guardians of Freedom,” begins at the turn of the 20th century when America, and its ever-changing flag, achieves global leadership by saving Democracy and Freedom in World Wars I and II, and becoming the primary beacon of Hope, Freedom, and Peace for the world. Our epic national story draws to a close with America as the world’s undisputed Superpower at the turn of the new millennium; the tragedy and triumph of 9/11; and as we began some 250 years earlier, we once again fought multiple wars to protect Democracy and Freedom against tyranny in the War on Terror over the first two decades of the 21st century.

The Flags of Freedom Trilogy is written primarily for young American readers by author, Walter Franklin Davis, so they might have an Entertaining, Engaging, and Fun way of understanding “How America Became America,” and learning why Freedom, Faith, and Flags, and America’s Founding Principles, Values, Ideals, and Aspirations, remain relevant to their lives even today.
