Thanks to ZGP Studios for this awesome video of the same name as my book (which was entirely coincidental). It’s a hilarious look at The Um-Factor (my book) in action!

No Um’s or Ah’s About It!

You Can Speak More Effectively!

Ahum — have you ever — like — listened to a speaker in person or online, who uses so many crutch words, echo words, filler words, and — um — word fragments that you became  —  like, you-know — so distracted that you could no longer pay attention to or understand what the speaker was trying to say?”

I certainly have, and I’ll bet you have too. We live in an era where the spoken word has become so thoughtless, lazy, fast, and fractured that it’s practically impossible to focus and engage with a speaker’s message. Instead, we tend to focus on the machinegun delivery of useless crutch words they insert between almost every other word. This distracted speech pandemic has become so pervasive and ubiquitous, it has become somewhat of a minor miracle that we can understand each other at all!

Crutch words, filler words, echo words, and other over-used word fragments are “Verbal Roadblocks to Understanding,” and they are quickly becoming the most prevalent factors responsible for preventing effective interpersonal and group communications. For brevity’s sake, I refer to these Verbal Roadblocks to Understanding as “The Um-Factor.

Other than subject matter expertise, the success or failure of a speaker’s message is in large part determined by their mastery of vocabulary, grammar, elocution, and presentation skills. However, there’s arguably an even greater factor that helps determine a speaker’s success or failure. It’s their mastery of The Um-Factor, and helping speakers like you master it is the primary goal and mission of this book.

Want to set yourself apart from the crowd? Want your listeners to think, “Wow, that was great!” instead of “Uh — What did he say?” If so, read The Um-Factor and find out how to eliminate crutch words and speak more fluidly and effectively by following its “7-Steps to Greater Speaking Success.

Learn how to become more successful in your business, professional, and daily life by reducing or totally eliminating these useless verbal roadblocks to understanding from your speech. You’ll maximize the effectiveness of your speech tool, capture and keep your audience’s attention, and achieve more profound engagement with the content of your message.

My dad always told me, “It’s a poor carpenter who blames his tools!” So, sharpen and hone your speech tool by mastering The Um-Factor, and you’ll gain a valuable edge over the millions of thoughtless, careless, and lazy speakers who just won’t make the effort!

Ahlike, —  you-know what I mean?
